This one was easy. The High Priestess is one of those cards that really stick with most tarot readers cause we in many ways identify with it, or aspire to it. My first one is from the Victorian Romantic tarot it is the Pythia, the oracle of Delphi, Priestess of Apollo being drunk by the fumes.

The second is from the Jolanda Tarot and I like it cause it shows her just as I see her in my mind, smiling, virginal, Artemis with the bow but also Apollo with the lyre, Gimel the camel traversing the abyss, the moon.

The last one is brand new to me, from the Langustl tarot but just look at it! So forceful and immediate in it’s symbolism. Click play to see and hear the artist talk about this card himself.

Foxy Lady

Corn-Cloud Woman Santa FeThe High Priestess is here called Corn-Cloud Woman and I think the story about her must be fascinating but alas, I don’t got the book. By the Little White Book she is guarded by butterflies that also show off her beauty, and in her hands is a medicine bag and a weasel bag but I be darned if that is not actually a fox she is holding. Foxes like weasels are both cunning and quick though. The feathers on her head is also for ‘far-reaching thought’ I like that!

She is a clever lady this one, I like that the fox gives her a more ‘street-smart’ air then just the commonly spiritual high and all that. I feel her. Her dress in 3 parts are like arrows pointing up, the feathers and the butterflies also seem to indicate something more ‘airy’ and spiritual. She clearly needs that fox to keep her wits about her.

I was close to giving up on this deck until I bought the book at least but decided to stick it out, just a few more days. There are stories here! Maybe I don’t know the Navajo stories, but there are still stories…  I am thinking I am gonna pull a card a day and then see later in the week what kind of story it is… Right now, we got a sassy wise foxy lady with tricks in her bag and a pure connection to the Spirit. It’s a good heroine to start us off.

Through my lens

RosettaInspired by a spread made by Marcus Katz that he posted on Facebook. He used the settings of an operation, but my brain (mis-)interpreted it as a
camera. So I took it like that and ran with it. 3 cards: The photographer – The lens – The motif.
First really get into the energy of the Photographer. I didn’t pick a court, she just came to me and it works best with courts cause their
personality is what gives this position its power. The energy of the Queen of Disks is nurturing yet conservating. She is not one to lavish on
luxury. She creates oasis of love in an otherwise sterile setting. She is emotionally grounded and quite sceptic. She is not about to spend her
buck on some self-proclaimed guru selling her the latest fad.
My lens is how I focus this energy and the Priestess here is to me a real ‘Aha’ card. I been reading this amazing book by Kala Trobe ‘The magical
Qabalah’ and in it she describes how to actually move between the sephira on the Tree of Life and that is what I see when I do pathwork. With an
extreme internal focus she is passing inside a tube of swirling water, her arms slightly raised to set the speed.
The 6 of Swords is ‘Science’ and is both a goal, a tool and sometimes a stumbling block cause in itself it is a mere wall to true Knowledge and
Experience. Those symbols can both be a block and a language for the initiated one.
I got a lot more on this in my journal but it is just personal notes in swedish that I am sure no one else can really be bothered with and I am too tired to try and translate them into meaningful english.

I decided to draw a card for September with Shadowscapes this morning. The High Priestess was the one.

She is opening her arms to the sky and I can’t tell if she is standing on a branch or if she is merely floating in air. She is wearing a belt of branches and autumn leaves are falling out from her dress, on her mantle is the different faces of the moon. In her hand a pomegranate and she has bitten into it. She is going deep within to uncover mysteries and as a guide there is a snowy owl holding a tiny golden key. The tree limbs in the cards are bare, we are in autumn and nature is going deep into sleep.

I love this time of the year and I am dedicating my September to her and to my studies of the mysteries.

Dream recording

The High PriestessBefore going to sleep last night I pulled one ‘Dream card’ and got the High Priestess. When I woke up I quickly jotted down the following:

Preparing food for homeless and handicapped, people with no legs or arms, broken.

I found white window latches that were bent, I used them as dowsing rods until someone told me they belonged to my childhood friends windows and she needed them back.

The phone was ringing and I picked it up and it was a psychologist asking me questions like: “Draw a picture of the house with the white window latches” and “What does an air-siren mean to you” and “Tell me why you make food for broken people” I had to hang up cause I felt he did not understand and I had problems sending pictures through the phone.

So this morning after writing this (in swedish though, this is a translation so in a way this is three times translated – dream – written swedish – english) I took out The High Priestess and looked at her again trying to find any clues. What I see: A beautiful woman is seated between a black and a white pillar. She wears a crown with both the full moon and the cresent. A black veil is flowing down her back. In her lap is both a closed scroll and an open map over the Tree of Life. Behind her an image of pomegranates.

So how do I connect the dream to the priestess? I guess I do see her as a spiritual healer, handing out food for the soul, mending broken dreams. The map of the Tree of Life I can feel is connected with the siren as it is something that guides you actions and movements. The latches for the windows… perhaps the closed scroll just based on both held in my hands and being white and of roughly the same shape. And how could you pass drawings/scrolls over the house/tree of life over the phonelines? It is hard indeed to take a dream and force it through another media.

Anyway, interesting experiment and I think I will do it again.
