Hierophant

Posted on

This hierophant is a great example of just how good Kat Black is with collaging this deck together. This image looks like a whole. Just like every part was there from the beginning, the cathedral, the pope, the staff, the monks… But they are from several different paintings. The role of a good spiritual shephard is to make sense out of disparate pieces, bringing order to chaos. Only problem is that our lives as humans are not as orderly as that. Too often the brining about of order is at a high cost, that of free thought and expression.

Right now there is a TV serie in just 3 parts that I am watching called ‘Torka aldrig tårar utan handskar’ (never wipe tears without gloves) and it is about the lives of a group of homosexuals in the 80:ies, just around the outbreak of AIDS and one of the persons is a Jehovas Witness. The TV show is so to the point, so exactly and so devastating in the way it shows how Jehova’s Witnesses did and still do shun everyone not in the fold of the righteous. No wonder so many of us have problems with this card, with this kind of authority.

Golden tarot queens and update to read-a-thon

Posted on

Well, first of all, the read-a-thon went well, I did sleep a few hours though or I get horribly cranky. I would have done even better if I had some audio-books cause my old eye went out on me around half-way through, reading with runny red itchy eyes is no bit hit. I did finish 2 books and made good progress in a few more and had fun so that is all good.

The cards I pulled for this weekend of reading were 2 queens from the Golden Tarot. First Queen of Cups, she looks a little stern but hey, she holds a book and a pen, she might be thinking about how to end that romance/thriller she is thinking about. The Queen of cups is for the day after the read-a-thon and she is in deep thought over what she read. Does she look out over a more fertile ground for her imagination? A butterfly of fancy is over her head so she is not as stern as one would think.

November is nanowrimo, you know the month were you are signing up to write a novel of at least 50k words. I am no writer but my challenge will be to read 30 books in November! Must not start Infinite jest or 1q84 or 2666 then. They are just too long :-p

A weekend of reading and Golden Tarot

Posted on

Well, last weeks tarot deck, the 2012 ascension just wasn’t what I wanted just now. I snuck back to the Sheridan-Douglas instead. This week I will be using Kat Black’s Golden Tarot. It is a beautiful art decks, collaged from renaissance and medival art, gilded edges and packed in a nifty little box. I have used it before, when I first got it, but since then it just been sitting in the glass cupboard looking pretty. It’s basically a Rider-Waite-Smith clone and that might be why. I do like RWS decks but tend to pick more out-side the box most of the time. This one still got a lot of interesting little details though that make it worth while.

Just realised the photo here looks horrid, hopefully I can get some better photos of it as the week progress.

Tomorrow is the Read-a-thon! I got a large line-up, but diverse, and I might change my mind and pick something totally random as well. But for now these the the books I want to finish this weekend:

For snack – plenty of coffee and tea and juice, toast, lentil soup and some crisps and dip for the evening. I do plan to take trips to the store and walks around the block now and then and maybe even a little nap in those 24 hours. But phone is off and computer is just to check in now and then (that will be the real test, the stay off the damn computer)
